TEACHING ON
"THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS BY HIS HOLINESS THE 14TH
DALAI LAMA
On July 17, 2008, Himalayan Buddhist Community is
honored to be hosting His Holiness the Dalai Lama as he
returns to New York City for one day of teaching. Held at
Radio City Music Hall, this special teaching will be on
The Four Noble Truths that elucidates the sufferings
within a being.
Knowing of your interest in the wisdom and culture of
Tibetan Buddhism, I write to ask you to consider becoming
a Sponsor of the upcoming visit. As a Sponsor, you will
receive front and center Sponsor seating in Radio City’s
Orchestra section for the teaching. With your Sponsor gift
of $1,000, you help make His Holiness’ visit possible and
allow us to provide tickets at a minimum, which enables
thousands to benefit from this extraordinary experience.
Himalayan Buddhist Community
is a non-profit
organization whose mission is to preserve the Himalayan
culture, heritage and promote communal harmony among its
people. Most of our members are from Nepal, the birth
place of Lord Shakyamuni Buddha. Of Nepal's total
population of 28.5 million people, 10.7 percent (over 3
million) identify themselves as Buddhists. The majority of
these Buddhists are from the Himalayan regions of Nepal.
His
Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, regarded by his followers as
the "living Buddha", is unequivocally the ultimate
messenger of Lord Buddha's teachings. However, due to the
extreme pressure from the People's Republic of China, the
Government of Nepal has vehemently denied access to His
Holiness to enter Nepal and visit Lumbini, the birth place
of Gautama Buddha. Ever since HH took refuge in Dharamsala,
India, the Buddhist communities in Nepal have been
strictly prohibited from extending invitation to their
spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, to Nepal.
Members
of Himalayan Buddhist
Community approached His Holiness'
representative to America, Mr. Tashi Wangdi, in New York
in 2005. As a result of that effort, an audience with His
Holiness was granted when he visited New York in September
2005. During that audience a formal letter of invitation
was presented.
His Holiness immediately accepted the
Himalayan Buddhist Community’s
humble request. Since that day, with extreme joy, we have
been looking forward to this day.
I hope you will be able to join us on July 17, 2008 as a
Sponsor. To learn more or to reserve your tickets, please
