The New
Providence Police Athletic League, often referred to as PAL,
is a nationally affiliated non-profit organization which
formed in New Providence in 1949. The PAL offers area youth
the opportunity to participate in fun activities and sports
while developing lasting relationships with many of the
volunteer members of the community. The PAL programs help
promote self-confidence and a competitive spirit, while
enabling kids to learn responsibility.
The New
Providence PAL provides competitive athletic programs for
children and young adults, age 5 through 18. Programs under
our direction include the following: Baseball, Basketball,
Cheerleading, Football, Softball, and Wrestling. The PAL
is dedicated to providing an opportunity for children,
regardless of their abilities, to learn the fundamentals of
each program under our direction. Although our programs are
competitive, every child is given an opportunity to
participate at each level along the way.
Why sports?
PAL's long years of experience with kids have shown that
sports help to bring out the best in them. They learn to be a
part of the team: how to fit in, develop athletic skills, and
compete with the team's goal in mind. Most importantly, they
learn they have the resources, both physical and mental, to be
successful. The disciplines learned from sports will help them
be winners throughout their lives. PAL creates a positive,
supportive environment, where kids can learn teamwork and
cooperation.
We are an
organization which depends upon volunteers from our community,
and we encourage every parent to become involved to the extent
where they can provide necessary services to all youth
participants. To that end, we are always looking for
volunteers and we have opportunities for everyone to get
involved in some role. Volunteers are needed as mentors,
tutors, coaches, activity leaders, and much more. What PAL
does would not be possible without the efforts and
determination to make a difference in the lives of our youth.
